Mireya Berenice Quevedo Villa

Choir master

Mireya Berenice Quevedo Villa has been an integral part of I Have a Voice Orphans Choir since mid 2023, bringing her expertise and passion for choral music to the Casa de Jesús para Protección de la Niña A.C. and the Coro Hogar para Niños Morelia. For Mireya, her work goes far beyond teaching vocal techniques or musical notes—it’s about helping children grow, surpass their own expectations, and bring out the best in themselves, both artistically and personally. The joy of being greeted with a hug, a smile, or a story from the children is one of the many highlights of her role.

Her involvement with IHAVOC began through the invitation of her dear friend Elizabeth Espejel, and she embraced the opportunity wholeheartedly. Mireya’s favorite moments are when she sees the children feeling comfortable with the exercises and songs they practice, realizing their ability to express themselves through their voices during rehearsals and public performances. Witnessing this transformation and confidence is deeply rewarding.

Mireya’s extensive background in choral music is a cornerstone of her success. Her journey began at a young age under the guidance of esteemed choir directors and continued with formal studies at institutions such as the Centro de Educación Artística “Miguel Bernal Jiménez,” the Conservatorio de las Rosas, and the Facultad Popular de Bellas Artes, where she specialized in choral conducting. Her professional experience includes co-founding a children’s choir workshop, leading choirs in community projects like "Niños Músicos por la Paz," and teaching solfège, choir, and keyboard at various institutions. This rich history equips her to inspire and guide the children in IHAVOC’s choirs.

Mireya measures success by the enthusiasm and uninhibited joy the children bring to singing in class. Moments when their vocal and auditory skills improve or when they develop a newfound appreciation for challenging pieces fill her with pride. Looking to the future, she envisions a permanent program where children participate in more cultural events and exchange programs, allowing them to connect with others and share their voices on a broader stage.
